WWSSC Football Chooses New Mascot
It was decided last fall by school board representatives and administration from Woonsocket, Wessington Springs, and Sanborn Central (WWSSC) to rebrand the football co-op by choosing a new mascot. This would establish the co-ops own identity instead of having the same mascot as the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks. This was also the best time as it’s the rotation year for new uniforms. The opportunity was given to all three schools from the WWSSC football co-op to come up with an idea for a new mascot. Each school chose a mascot and then all three mascots were voted on by 7th-12th graders from each school. The results are as follows:
Bucks- 167
Stallions- 56
Bandits- 21
The Bucks also received the most votes from each school. The WWSSC Bucks will be the official mascot of the WWSSC co-op using the same colors as in the past.

Last night was a great night on the court. Myah Selland was honored for her accomplishments starting with her roots at Sanborn Central and elevating to SDSU college and eventually overseas basketball play. The list of accomplishment is forever long and we are Blackhawk Proud today for Myah to call our school "home."
Brady is a graduate of Sanborn Central and is currently attending Mitchell Technical College for ag business. Brady was diagnosed in December with Sever Aplastic Anemia, a rare and serious condition that occurs when your body stops producing enough new blood cells. It is anticipated that Brady will have to undergo a bone marrow transplant this year as part of his treatment.

The WWSSC football co-op has and will continue to look for ways to improve the program for the future. School Board and administrative representatives from all 3 schools met and decided that one way to improve is to rebrand the co-op with a new mascot. This will give the WWSSC co-op its own identity instead of having the same mascot as SCW. This would also be the best time to make a change as it’s the year we order new uniforms. The colors of the co-op will remain the same and students from each school will have an opportunity to help rebrand. Administration will work with their 7-12 student body to come up with the top mascot idea from each school with a deadline of December 16. Then we will have a vote with the top 3 mascot ideas with all schools voting to decide on what mascot best represents our co-op. The timeline is very short and we would like to have everything decided by the Holiday Break.
There is a Parent/Player Meeting for all Girls Basketball Players and Parents grade 7-12, tonight at 6pm at the Sanborn Central Gym Commons.
